Biochem/physiol Actions
Bad, a pro-apoptotic factor, is a member of the Bcl-2 family. Cytokine-induced phosphorylation of Bad results in it being sequested in the cytosol. In the absence of cytokines such as interleukin 3 (IL-3), Bad dephosphorylation occurs, causing the release of cytochrome c from the mitochondria.
